President's Message

Brothers, Sisters, Associates, and members of the Lodge 32 family,

More than thirty years ago a group of Greenbelt Police Officers decided to join a ‘fraternal’ organization named the Fraternal Order of Police. The Greenbelt ‘lodge’ was issued lodge number #32. The officers who formed the lodge did so for several reasons, but first and foremost they knew any concerns or problems they had regarding pay, benefits and working conditions were best addressed by ‘Greenbelt FOP Lodge #32’ instead of individual officers or an outside organization. As the members began to believe (and participate) in the lodge, it became a ‘the voice’ for their concerns, and ‘the protector’ of their rights as both police officers and U.S. citizens.

One of the long range goals of the lodge was the right to be able to bargain collectively with the City of Greenbelt. The members of the lodge knew then that the key to obtaining security regarding pay, benefits and working conditions was through collective bargaining.

Our goal has finally been obtained…………..

It has been a long road which has finally ended. Our first collective bargaining agreement (CBA) has been negotiated, ratified and goes into effect on July 1, 2007. Every member, new and old, active and associate should be proud and pleased, because we all have had a part in this effort.  Each of us has attended council meetings, work sessions, and other events with a common goal in mind; to protect the lodge and the rights of its members.

As we enjoy the old and new benefits enclosed in the CBA, we must not get complacent. We as a lodge must continue to protect each other, and strive to keep Greenbelt FOP #32 an organization we are proud to be members of. As in the past this will require hard work, patience, and some self sacrifice but I have no doubt all of us are up to the challenge. We have done it in the past and the present, and I KNOW it will happen in the future.

John Rogers

President Greenbelt FOP #32
